Honestly, petitions aren't really the way to get anything done. Encouraging supporters to contact their local and national senators and represenatitives to author / support legislation is what needs to happen. They need people who have professional experience, personal experience, or involved in research in the area to stand up and give logical argument and suggestions for a practical approach to distribution of MM.
When a recent MM bill came up in my state I called my state reps and encouraged them to offer support. They voted against the bill, but wrote me a letter explaining their reasons for doing so (the bill was poorly written with too many "loop holes" according to them).
Professionally speaking, I am choosy when deciding who to disclose my support for controversial subjects such as this, because while I know that ethically those in a position of authority or influence technically should not show ways of bias based on my political views, I know that in real life those things can sour some people's opinions of you, and often that's enough to tip the scales when it comes to receiving a promotion or a new job.

People who discover that you have promoted this legalization may be in a position to assist or harm your career. So keeping your name out of the procedures may be of value for you.
But legalization can go further, allowing people to grow pot for their private use, in their own home, with or without medical certification. We have many families suffering from alcohol induced violence that would be better served to switch from alcohol to home grown pot. Not only does violence disappear, but the cost of the booze is eliminated.
This is a big jump toward a Libertarian point of view, and even promoting Libertarian doctrines can be harmful to your career. or it can help it.

No, it is a political point of view. IF your employer brings it up ask him to give you a drug test (be clean, for your sake). If you pass and he still fires you, then you can sue for discrimination because of a political view point.

what does one thing have to do with the other? I'm a financial controller, 49 yrs old and I like hard rock and heavy metal music. I'm going to see the Masters of Metal tour next week With Judas Priest, Dio led Black Sabbath and Motorhead. Doesn't affect my work at all.

I wouldn't put it on your resume or ask a potential employer to sign a petition. Otherwise, I don't see how your employer would even know. I suspect you would just be wasting your time collecting signatures though.

I don't see how it could....why is it any one else's business on what your political opinions are about that sort of issue? It shouldn't hurt you at all. That'd be like some one not employing you for being against/for abortion........
